Frequently asked questions
Most visitors go to the At the Top deck on levels 124 and 125. Some tickets add level 148 with a lounge and refreshments. The highest option is The Lounge on levels 152 to 154, with an outdoor terrace and high tea.
Many evening safaris welcome families, and young children often join free. Dune bashing can be bumpy, so it is not suitable for pregnant women or people with back, neck or heart problems. Some morning safaris do not allow children under 5. Check the rules of each safari before you book.
Yes, for the most popular ones. Burj Khalifa time slots at sunset often sell out, and timed tickets let you skip the queue at the ticket counter.
Light, comfortable clothes are fine at most attractions. Some restaurants, such as those in the Burj Khalifa, ask for smart casual clothes. For mosques and traditional areas, cover your shoulders and knees. Bring sunglasses and sunscreen for outdoor visits.
Choose indoor attractions. The Burj Khalifa, the Dubai Aquarium, the Lost World Aquarium, The Green Planet and IMG Worlds of Adventure are all indoors and air-conditioned. Leave the desert and the waterparks for the morning or the evening.
Few cities change as fast as Dubai. In a few decades it grew from a trading port on a creek into a city of record-breaking towers, man-made islands and desert resorts.
Most visitors start at the top. The Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world, and its observation decks look over Downtown Dubai, the Gulf and the desert. From there, the choice is wide: a sunset safari in the red dunes, a day of water slides at Atlantis, The Palm, a walk through millions of flowers at the Dubai Miracle Garden, or a full day at an indoor theme park.
On Artista Tours you can book entry tickets and experiences for Dubai's main attractions, with clear details on what each ticket includes, where to go and what to bring.
About Dubai
Dubai is the largest city of the United Arab Emirates. It sits on the coast of the Arabian Gulf, with the Arabian Desert at its back. The city began as a fishing and pearl-diving settlement around Dubai Creek and became a major trade port in the 20th century.
Old Dubai still lives along the creek. In the Al Fahidi district, narrow lanes pass traditional houses with wind towers, and across the water the gold and spice souks of Deira keep their market feel. Small wooden abra boats carry people between the two banks.
Modern Dubai stretches south along the coast. Downtown Dubai holds the Burj Khalifa, the Dubai Mall and the Dubai Fountain. Further along are Dubai Marina, with its towers and waterfront walk, and Palm Jumeirah, the palm-shaped island that is home to Atlantis, The Palm.
Beyond the city, the desert begins. Red dunes, camel farms and Bedouin-style camps are an easy drive from most hotels, which makes a desert safari one of the most popular experiences in Dubai.
What to expect on a Dubai experience
Most Dubai experiences are timed entry tickets or half-day trips with hotel pickup. City attractions such as the Burj Khalifa usually ask you to choose a time slot when you book. Arrive a little early, because there is a security check and you may need to show a valid ID.
Desert safaris include pickup and drop-off at your hotel. Evening safaris usually combine dune bashing in a 4x4, sandboarding and a camel ride with a BBQ dinner and live shows at a camp. Morning safaris start before dawn and are back by late morning, before the heat of the day.
Many of the big attractions are indoors and air-conditioned, such as the aquariums, the rainforest at The Green Planet and IMG Worlds of Adventure. Outdoor sites such as the waterparks, the theme parks and the Miracle Garden are best in the morning or late afternoon.
Dubai suits every kind of traveller. Families, couples, groups of friends and solo visitors all find plenty to do, from relaxed sightseeing to thrill rides and desert adventures.
Best time to visit
The best time to visit Dubai is from November to March. Days are warm and sunny, and evenings are pleasant for desert safaris, boat rides and outdoor attractions.
From June to September, Dubai is very hot and humid, with daytime temperatures often above 40°C. Plan outdoor activities for early morning or evening, and spend the middle of the day at indoor attractions. Some seasonal sites, such as the Dubai Miracle Garden and Global Village, close during the hottest months.
During Ramadan, which moves each year, some shows and services change their hours. Eating and drinking in public during the day may be limited, so check before you travel.
For sunset views from the Burj Khalifa or Sky Views, book a time slot in the late afternoon. These slots are the most popular, so book early.
Getting around
Dubai is a large city, and most attractions are too far apart to walk between. The Dubai Metro is the easiest way to travel along the main corridor. The Red Line links Dubai International Airport with Downtown Dubai, the Dubai Mall area and Dubai Marina.
Pay for the metro, buses and trams with a Nol card, which you can buy and top up at any metro station. Taxis are easy to find, and ride-hailing apps work across the city.
Many tickets include transport. Desert safaris include pickup and drop-off at your hotel, and some theme park tickets include a shuttle and parking. Check the details of each ticket before you book.
In Old Dubai, take a traditional abra boat across Dubai Creek between Bur Dubai and Deira. It is one of the cheapest and most memorable rides in the city.
