No other city belongs to one architect the way Barcelona belongs to Antoni Gaudí. Seven of his works are on the UNESCO World Heritage list, and most of them stand within a few metro stops of each other. The hard part is not finding them. It is choosing which ones to go inside, and in what order.

About Architecture Tours in Barcelona
Gaudí's Barcelona grew with the city itself. In the late nineteenth century the old walls came down, and the new grid of the Eixample filled with the homes of rich industrial families. They competed for the boldest façades, and Gaudí, Lluís Domènech i Montaner and Josep Puig i Cadafalch gave them stone that waves, mosaics that shine and roofs shaped like dragons. This movement, Catalan Modernisme, still defines the look of the city.
The Sagrada Família

Passeig de Gràcia: Casa Batlló and La Pedrera
On Barcelona's grandest avenue, two Gaudí houses stand a short walk apart. Casa Batlló has balconies like masks and a roof like the back of a dragon. La Pedrera, or Casa Milà, has a stone front that moves like a cliff and a rooftop of chimneys like warriors. On the same block as Casa Batlló, the Block of Discord shows houses by all three great Modernist architects side by side.
Park Güell and Casa Vicens
Park Güell began as a garden estate on a hill above the city, and its mosaic terrace and gingerbread pavilions are among Gaudí's most playful work. Down the hill in the Gràcia district, Casa Vicens was his first major house, a summer home covered in green and white tiles.
Palau Güell and the Palau de la Música
In the old town, just off La Rambla, Palau Güell shows the young Gaudí designing a palace for his patron, from the stables in the basement to the colourful chimneys on the roof. Not far away, Domènech i Montaner's Palau de la Música Catalana is a concert hall of stained glass and sculpture, and one of the finest Modernist interiors in the city.

What to expect on a Architecture Tours in Barcelona experience
Architecture tours in Barcelona come in three main forms.
- Guided tours. A guide links several buildings and explains the ideas behind them. Many include skip-the-line entry to the Sagrada Família, and some add Park Güell or Casa Batlló.
- Entry tickets with an audio guide. You visit one building at your own pace. Some tickets have early-morning, sunset or evening slots.

Most buildings use timed entry, so arrive a few minutes before your slot. Each tour page lists the buildings you enter, the buildings you see from outside, and the languages.
Best time to visit
The Gaudí buildings are open all year, and they are busiest from Easter to October. The first and last time slots of the day are usually the quietest. Light also changes the visit: the stained glass of the Sagrada Família glows in the late afternoon, and the rooftops of La Pedrera and Casa Batlló are at their best at sunset.
Book ahead in spring and summer, because tickets for popular times sell out days in advance.
Getting around
The metro links all the main Gaudí sites. The Sagrada Família has its own station, Casa Batlló and La Pedrera are near Passeig de Gràcia station, and Casa Vicens is in Gràcia. Park Güell is on a hill, so the easiest way up is by bus or taxi, or on foot from Vallcarca metro station with the help of outdoor escalators. Palau Güell and the Palau de la Música are in the old town, a short walk from La Rambla.

You can see the outside of most of them in one day, but you can go inside only two or three. A good day combines the Sagrada Família with Casa Batlló or La Pedrera, or with Park Güell.
