Tibidabo is the highest hill above Barcelona, at 512 metres, and you can see it from almost anywhere in the city. At the top stand a church crowned by a statue of Christ and an amusement park that opened in 1901. Some of its old rides, such as the Avió plane from 1928, still run today, high above the city and the sea.
This page gathers ways to visit with Artista: entry to the amusement park, tickets for the Panoramic Area rides at the summit, and the funicular ride up. Each card shows what is included.
About Tibidabo
The name comes from the Latin "tibi dabo", "I will give you". In the Bible story, the devil takes Jesus to a high mountain, shows him the kingdoms of the world and offers them to him. From the top of Tibidabo, the city and the coast lie spread out below in the same way.
The Sagrat Cor church took about sixty years to build, from 1902 to 1961, to a design by Enric Sagnier. Next to it, the amusement park keeps rides from many periods: the Talaia, a viewing arm that lifts you out over the hillside, the Avió, a model of the first plane that flew from Barcelona to Madrid, and the Museu d'Autòmats, with mechanical figures that move when you put in a token.
What to expect on a Tibidabo experience
The summit has two parts. The Panoramic Area at the very top has the classic rides and the best views. The full amusement park adds the bigger rides and the shows on the slopes below. Check what your ticket covers before you choose.
The church is free to enter. A lift and stairs take you higher, to a terrace below the statue, for an extra fee. Allow most of a day for the full park, or about two hours for the Panoramic Area and the church.
Best time to visit
The amusement park does not open every day. It opens mostly at weekends and on holidays, more often in summer, and the calendar changes through the year. Check the opening days before you plan your visit.
Come on a clear day for the view. On the best days you can see Montserrat inland. The hilltop is cooler and windier than the streets below, so bring a layer.
Getting around
The Cuca de Llum funicular climbs from Plaça del Doctor Andreu to the top in a few minutes. To reach its lower station, take the FGC train (line L7) to Avinguda Tibidabo, then bus 196. On days when the amusement park is open, the T2A Tibibus runs from Plaça de Catalunya to the top, and a shuttle runs from Plaça Kennedy to the funicular.
By car, the road climbs through the Collserola park to car parks near the summit.
