Question 1

When do Alhambra tickets sell out?

Accepted Answer

Often weeks ahead in spring and autumn, and days ahead the rest of the year. The Nasrid Palaces have a fixed number of visitors per day, so book as soon as you know your dates, or choose a guided visit with tickets included.

Question 2

What is the difference between the Nasrid Palaces and the Generalife?

Accepted Answer

The Nasrid Palaces were the royal residence, with the most famous rooms and courtyards, including the Court of the Lions. The Generalife was the sultans' summer palace, set in terraced gardens with fountains a short walk above the main site.

Question 3

Does the Alhambra open at night?

Accepted Answer

Yes, on several evenings a week. Night visits open the Nasrid Palaces with soft lighting and fewer people. They need their own ticket, so a night tour with tickets included is the simplest option.

Question 4

Do I have to enter the Nasrid Palaces at a set time?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Your ticket shows an exact entry time for the Nasrid Palaces, and late arrivals may not get in. Bring the ID used for the booking, because names are checked at the entrance.

Question 5

What can I see at the Alhambra without a ticket?

Accepted Answer

Some areas are open to everyone, including the Palace of Charles V and parts of the grounds and walls. Guides explain them on a tour of the public areas, but the Nasrid Palaces, the Alcazaba and the Generalife need a ticket.

Question 6

Which viewpoint has the classic Alhambra view?

Accepted Answer

The Mirador de San Nicolás in the Albaicín, especially at sunset, when the walls turn red against the Sierra Nevada. The Mirador de San Cristóbal and the Sacromonte hillside are quieter alternatives.

Question 7

Is tapas really free in Granada?

Accepted Answer

In many bars, yes. When you order a drink, a small plate of food comes with it at no extra cost, and each new round often brings a different tapa.

Question 8

What is the zambra of Sacromonte?

Accepted Answer

The zambra is a form of flamenco performed in the caves of Sacromonte, where Granada's Roma community has lived for centuries. Shows take place in whitewashed caves, close enough to feel the dancers' steps.

Question 9

How long does an Alhambra visit take?

Accepted Answer

About three hours for the Nasrid Palaces, the Alcazaba and the Generalife together. Allow extra time if you want to walk back down through the woods or into the Albaicín.

Question 10

Is Granada possible as a day visit from Málaga?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Granada is about an hour and a half from Málaga by road, so a day visit works if you book your Alhambra time slot in advance.
