Frequently asked questions

No — Artista Tours offers a range of experiences in Granada, not only free tours. Alongside tip-based free walking tours, you will find small-group and private guided tours as well as paid guided visits to the Alhambra with entry tickets included. Every tour shows its price and exactly what is included when you book, so you can choose the option that suits you.

Most Granada walking tours last between two and three hours at a relaxed pace. For free walking tours it's wise to reserve a day or two ahead in high season (spring, summer and major holidays), as popular time slots fill up. If your tour includes entry to the Alhambra, book as far in advance as possible — official Alhambra tickets regularly sell out weeks ahead, especially for the Nasrid Palaces.

Yes. The Alhambra is a ticketed monument with strictly limited daily entry, and that admission is separate from any free walking tour. Tours listed here as "with tickets" already include your timed Alhambra entry, so you skip the ticket queue and go straight in with your guide. Because daily numbers are capped and demand is very high, we strongly recommend booking these Alhambra tours well ahead of your visit, particularly for the Nasrid Palaces.

Discover Granada with walking tours, free tours and cultural experiences designed to help you explore the city beyond the usual tourist route.

Walk through the Albaicín, Sacromonte, the cathedral district and the streets below the Alhambra with knowledgeable guides who bring Granada's history, architecture and culture to life. From Moorish al-Andalus and the Nasrid dynasty to the Christian Reconquest, Granada is a city best understood on foot.

Whether you are looking for a Granada free walking tour, a small-group city highlights tour, a private walking tour, an Albaicín and Sacromonte route, a flamenco experience or an Alhambra guided visit, Artista Tours helps you discover Granada through local stories, history and culture.

About Granada

Granada is one of Spain's most iconic destinations, set at the foot of the Sierra Nevada in the region of Andalusia. It is famous worldwide for the Alhambra, its Moorish heritage, its hillside neighbourhoods, flamenco and a generous free-tapas tradition.

For almost 800 years Granada was a centre of Moorish Spain, and it was the last Muslim kingdom on the Iberian Peninsula until 1492. That legacy is crowned by the Alhambra, a UNESCO World Heritage palace-fortress whose Nasrid Palaces, Generalife gardens and Alcazaba draw visitors from around the world.

Below the Alhambra, the Albaicín — the old Moorish quarter — tumbles down the hillside in a maze of cobbled streets, hidden squares and carmen gardens, with the Mirador de San Nicolás offering the classic view of the Alhambra against the mountains. Across the valley, the Sacromonte caves keep flamenco's roots alive, while the cathedral and Royal Chapel mark the city's Christian history.

A guided walking tour is one of the best ways to understand Granada, because many of its most interesting details are found in the steep lanes, viewpoints, courtyards and hidden corners that are easy to miss when exploring alone.

What to expect on a Granada experience

On a Granada walking tour, you can expect a relaxed route through historic neighbourhoods, famous landmarks, hillside viewpoints and hidden corners. Walking tours are ideal for discovering the details of the city that are difficult to appreciate from a bus or taxi.

Depending on the route, you may explore the Albaicín, Sacromonte, the cathedral and Royal Chapel, the streets and viewpoints around the Alhambra, the old Moorish bathhouses, local squares and the Mirador de San Nicolás. Tours that include entry to the Alhambra require a separate ticket.

Your guide will share stories about Granada's Moorish and Christian history, its architecture, legends and traditions, while also offering useful recommendations for tapas bars, viewpoints, flamenco and things to do after the tour.

Granada walking tours are suitable for first-time visitors, solo travellers, couples, families, private groups and anyone who wants to understand the city in a deeper and more enjoyable way.

Best time to visit

Granada can be visited all year round, but the best times for walking tours are usually spring and autumn, along with the cooler hours of the day in summer.

Spring and autumn offer comfortable weather for exploring the hilly city on foot, with pleasant temperatures and the gardens of the Alhambra and Generalife at their best. Summer can be hot, so morning and late-afternoon tours are usually more comfortable, and carrying water is recommended.

Winter is mild and quieter, and on clear days you can even see snow on the Sierra Nevada behind the Alhambra — a striking backdrop for photos. The Albaicín, Sacromonte and cathedral district can all be enjoyed throughout the year.

Comfortable shoes are recommended, as many tours include steep cobbled streets, staircases and several viewpoints. If your visit includes the Alhambra, booking tickets well in advance is strongly advised, as entry slots sell out quickly.

Getting around

Granada's historic centre is compact but hilly, and the Albaicín and Sacromonte are steep and largely car-free, so comfortable shoes are essential. Most walking tours begin around the cathedral and Plaza Nueva, both easy to reach on foot.

For the steeper neighbourhoods and the climb up to the Alhambra, the small red minibuses (lines C1, C2 and C32) are handy, and taxis are easy to find throughout the city.

Granada is connected to Madrid, Seville and other cities by the AVE high-speed train and by regional buses. For most walking tours, it is best to arrive at the meeting point at least 10 minutes before the start time.
