The Alhambra is Granada's crowning glory — a vast hilltop city of Nasrid palaces, fortified towers and water gardens that stands as the finest surviving monument of Moorish Spain. It is the most visited monument in the country, and its timed entry to the Nasrid Palaces sells out weeks in advance.
Booking a guided tour with tickets included is the simplest, most reliable way to visit. Our Alhambra tours lead you through the Nasrid Palaces, the Generalife gardens and the Alcazaba fortress with an expert local guide — by day, and on an atmospheric evening tour of the illuminated palaces.
About Alhambra Tours in Granada
Granada sits at the foot of the snow-capped Sierra Nevada in Andalusia, and the Alhambra crowns the city from the Sabika hill, facing the whitewashed Albaicín quarter across the Darro valley. Built by the Nasrid dynasty between the 13th and 15th centuries, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the great masterpieces of Islamic art and architecture.
The complex is really several sites in one — the royal Nasrid Palaces, the military Alcazaba, the summer palace and gardens of the Generalife, and the Renaissance additions of Charles V. A guided visit ties eight centuries of history together, from the Moorish emirs to the Catholic Monarchs, and makes sure you reach the Nasrid Palaces on time.
What to expect on a Alhambra Tours in Granada experience
On a guided Alhambra tour you can expect a walk of two to three hours through the palace-city, with a guide who brings its history, poetry and craftsmanship to life. Highlights across our tours include:
- The Nasrid Palaces — the Mexuar, the Court of the Myrtles and the exquisite Court of the Lions
- The Generalife summer palace and its terraced water gardens
- The Alcazaba fortress and its watchtowers, with panoramic views over Granada
- The Palace of Charles V and the wider Alhambra grounds
- An evening option touring the floodlit Nasrid Palaces after dark
Entry tickets are included, and your guide handles the timed-entry logistics so you can focus on the experience.
Best time to visit
The Alhambra is open all year. Spring (April–June) and autumn (September–October) are the most rewarding, with warm days, the Generalife gardens in bloom or turning, and gentler crowds than high summer. Summer is hot and very busy, so early-morning slots are best; winter is quiet and crisp, often with the Sierra Nevada snow as a backdrop.
Whatever the season, book well ahead — Nasrid Palace tickets are strictly capped and sell out fast. Early-morning and late-afternoon visits give the softest light for photography, and the evening tour of the illuminated palaces is a magical, far quieter alternative.
Getting around
The Alhambra sits on a hill above central Granada. From the centre you can walk up the steep, atmospheric Cuesta de Gomérez through the woods (about 20–30 minutes), take the dedicated C30/C32 minibus from Plaza Isabel la Católica, or arrive by taxi. Most tours meet near the main ticket pavilion or a central city landmark.
Granada itself is compact and walkable, with the Alhambra, the Albaicín and the cathedral all within reach on foot. Wear comfortable shoes — the Alhambra grounds are large, with cobbles, slopes and plenty of walking between the palaces and gardens.
