Question 1

Are there free walking tours in Seville?

Accepted Answer

Yes. They run on a tip basis — you book without paying and give your guide what you thought the walk was worth at the end. Alongside them you will find small-group and private walks, and ticketed visits to the monuments.

Question 2

Do I need to book the Alcázar and the cathedral in advance?

Accepted Answer

The Alcázar, yes — it sells out days ahead through spring and autumn and rarely has tickets at the door. The cathedral is easier but still worth booking in season. Neither is included in a walking tour of the streets.

Question 3

When is the best time to visit Seville?

Accepted Answer

Spring and autumn. March to May is the city at its best and its fullest; late September to November gives you similar weather with far fewer people. Winter is mild and quiet, and summer is hot enough to plan around.

Question 4

How hot does it get in summer?

Accepted Answer

Regularly above forty degrees in July and August — Seville is one of the hottest cities in Europe. If you come then, do your walking early or late and treat the middle of the day as indoor time.

Question 5

Is Seville walkable?

Accepted Answer

Very. The centre is flat and compact, and most of what visitors come for sits within a half-hour walk. The narrow streets of the old town are also the coolest way to cross the city in summer.

Question 6

Is it worth crossing the river to Triana?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Triana was the sailors' and potters' quarter and has kept its own identity — ceramics, a working market, and a strong claim on the origins of flamenco. It is a ten-minute walk from the cathedral across the Isabel II bridge.

Question 7

Can I visit Córdoba from Seville in a day?

Accepted Answer

Comfortably. The high-speed train takes around forty-five minutes from Santa Justa, which makes the Mezquita a straightforward day trip.
