About Pattaya
Pattaya is a seaside city on the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand, about 150 kilometres south-east of Bangkok. It grew from a fishing village into one of the busiest resort towns in Thailand from the 1960s.
The city curves along Pattaya Bay, with Jomtien Beach to the south. Koh Larn, the Coral Island, lies about 7 kilometres offshore and is a short ferry ride away.
What to expect on a Pattaya experience
Shows and attractions in Pattaya usually sell timed tickets, so arrive about 30 minutes early. Adventure activities such as ziplines and ATV rides often include hotel transfers within Pattaya.
For Koh Larn, ferries leave from Bali Hai Pier. Bring swimwear, sun cream and cash for beach chairs and snacks.
Best time to visit
November to February is dry and less humid, and the most popular time. March to May is the hottest season. June to October brings rain, often in short afternoon showers.
Getting around
Songthaews, shared pickup trucks, run along Beach Road and Second Road and are the cheapest way to travel. Taxis, ride-hailing apps and motorbike taxis are also common. Buses and private transfers link Pattaya with Bangkok and Suvarnabhumi Airport in about 2 hours.
