Question 1

What are the top things to do in Barcelona?

Accepted Answer

Start with the Sagrada Família, Park Güell, Casa Batlló and La Pedrera, then add a day trip to Montserrat and a walk through the Gothic Quarter and El Born. The Picasso Museum, the FC Barcelona Museum at Spotify Camp Nou and the Palau de la Música Catalana are next on most lists. In the evening, see a flamenco show, go out for tapas, or take a boat tour at sunset.

Question 2

What are the best tours in Barcelona?

Accepted Answer

For a first visit, a guided Sagrada Família tour is the one most people book, often combined with Park Güell. A city tour of the Gothic Quarter and El Born, a flamenco show, a sunset boat tour and a day trip to Montserrat are the other favourites. Choose a private tour if you want the guide to yourselves.

Question 3

Do I need to book the Sagrada Família and Park Güell in advance?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Both use timed tickets and often sell out days ahead, especially from spring to autumn. Booking a Sagrada Família tour or a Park Güell tour with entry included saves you from finding tickets separately and gets you a guide who explains what you are seeing.

Question 4

What are the best day trips from Barcelona?

Accepted Answer

Montserrat is the most popular: a monastery set among jagged peaks, about an hour from the city, often combined with wine or tapas. Girona and its old town, the coves of the Costa Brava, the beach town of Sitges and the cava cellars of the Penedès are also easy day trips.

Question 5

Where can I see a flamenco show in Barcelona?

Accepted Answer

Flamenco comes from Andalusia, not Catalonia, but Barcelona has a strong flamenco scene with nightly shows in small theatres, historic palaces and tablaos in the old town. Shows usually last about an hour, and some include a drink, tapas or dinner. Book ahead for weekend evenings.

Question 6

Can I take a boat tour in Barcelona?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Boat tours and sailing trips leave from the old port and the Olympic port and follow the coast past the beaches, with views of Montjuïc and the city skyline. Sunset trips with drinks are the most popular, and catamarans, private yachts and kayaks are also on offer, mainly from spring to autumn.

Question 7

What can I do in Barcelona with kids?

Accepted Answer

Children tend to love Park Güell's mosaic dragon, the beaches, boat and catamaran trips, the Aquarium, the CosmoCaixa science museum and the funfair on top of Tibidabo. Hands-on activities such as cooking classes and craft workshops also work well for families.

Question 8

What can I do in Barcelona on a rainy day?

Accepted Answer

Rain is a good excuse for the inside of the Sagrada Família, Casa Batlló and La Pedrera, the Picasso Museum, the Moco Museum, the FC Barcelona Museum, the Palau de la Música Catalana, the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC) on Montjuïc and the Roman remains under the city history museum. A cooking class or a flamenco show is another good indoor plan.

Question 9

Are there free tours in Barcelona?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Free walking tours of the Gothic Quarter and the old town work on a tip basis: there is nothing to pay upfront, and you tip the guide at the end what you think the tour was worth. Visits that include entry to sights such as the Sagrada Família are always paid.

Question 10

How many days do I need in Barcelona?

Accepted Answer

Three to four days is enough for the Gaudí highlights, the old town, a museum or two and an evening out. With five days or more you can add a day trip to Montserrat or the coast and slow down at the beach.

Question 11

When is the best time to visit Barcelona?

Accepted Answer

April to June and September to October bring warm weather without the peak summer crowds. July and August are hot and busy, so book the big sights early. Winter is mild and quiet, which makes it a good time for Gaudí visits and museums.
