Park Güell was meant to be a gated garden estate for wealthy families. Only two houses were ever built, and the city bought the land and opened it as a public park in 1926. What remains is Gaudí at play: the mosaic lizard on the steps, the long serpentine bench, and a view over the city to the sea.
The central Monumental Zone has timed tickets. One tour here includes skip-the-line entry together with the Sagrada Família; the other passes the park on a full-day city tour.
