Guided Tour of the Alcázar and the National Army Museum

Archaeological remains are visible right from the building’s entrance. Explore an ancient cistern with two thousand years of history, the walls of the Arab Alcázar, and the remains of a 14th-century tower. Thanks to the images and explanatory panels, you’ll be able to imagine what the Alcázar was like in the past during different eras: a Roman praetorium, an Islamic fortress, and an ancient palace that was destroyed in the 16th century to make way for a new Renaissance palace.

Since 2009, the Alcázar has housed the National Army Museum. Stroll among historic military artifacts such as uniforms, cannons, and exquisite swords that belonged to prominent figures in Spanish history. Visit the collection of armor recently donated to the museum. Be moved as you explore Moscardó’s office—the only room that was not renovated after the Spanish Civil War—and hear the famous story of General Moscardó and his conversation with his son.
