The Castelo dos Mouros, or Moorish Castle, crowns a rocky ridge above Sintra. The Moors built it in the 10th century, and its walls snake along the hilltop between towers and gates.
Walk the ramparts for wide views over Sintra, the colourful Pena Palace on the next hill and, on clear days, the Atlantic coast. Along the paths you see finds from the Neolithic, Bronze Age and Iron Age. Choose the option with an audio guide app to learn the castle's story as you go.
The paths are steep and uneven, so wear good shoes. Pena Palace and the National Palace of Sintra are not included.
