On this free Golden Age tour of Seville, we’ll delve into one of the city’s most glorious eras, when the Andalusian capital served as the hub of trade with the Americas. We’ll see important landmarks such as the Giralda, the Torre del Oro, and the Casa de la Contratación.
At the time of your choice, we’ll meet at Plaza de San Francisco to begin a walking tour that will introduce us to Seville’s most glorious era. Let’s go!
“Whoever hasn’t seen Seville hasn’t seen a wonder.” That was the most common saying when people spoke of the Andalusian capital in the 16th and 17th centuries, and it’s surely what you’ll say when you see the Giralda. We’ll stroll through the city’s streets to recall the important events that took place here during its so-called Golden Age.
After the discovery of the New World, Venetians, Genoese, Flemings, Germans, and many other Europeans settled in Seville to start thriving businesses at the so-called “Gateway to America.” We’ll reveal all the fascinating facts and secrets of this thrilling history!
During our free tour, we’ll admire the Plaza del Triunfo, known for its famous UNESCO triangle. Did you know that this square is home to three buildings designated as World Heritage Sites? We’ll admire the exteriors of the General Archive of the Indies, the Royal Alcázar of Seville, and the cathedral.
Next, we’ll see the façade of the Casa de la Contratación, a key site for understanding Seville’s Golden Age. Good land transportation and favorable navigation on the Guadalquivir River were crucial factors in making Seville the hub of trade with the Americas.
We’ll continue our walk, taking in other iconic buildings such as the Royal Mint, the Customs House, the Church of La Caridad, and the Atarazanas. We’ll also head toward the Guadalquivir River to admire the Torre del Oro while reviewing the fascinating expeditions of Magellan and Elcano.
After a two-hour tour, we’ll conclude the free tour on the Paseo Alcalde Marqués de Contadero.
