Full description
Charles Garnier built the opera house for Emperor Napoleon III, and it opened in 1875. Climb the marble Grand Staircase, walk through the gilded Grand Foyer and see the temporary exhibitions.
Water under the building led to the legend of an underground lake, which inspired The Phantom of the Opera. The performance hall often closes for rehearsals, so the ticket does not guarantee access to it.
