From Pompeii, you travel to the volcano that buried the town. Shared transport takes you to the base of the path, and skip-the-line tickets get you quickly onto the route to the top.

Meet the guide with the Askos Tours sign outside Porta Marina Superiore, the main entrance of the Pompeii ruins, near the Hortus bar-restaurant. Wear closed shoes. The tour is not suitable for wheelchair users, people with mobility or heart problems, strollers or children under 4.

• Meeting point: outside the gate of Porta Marina Superiore – main entrance of Pompeii ruins, just in front of the bar-restaurant "Hortus" – the one with a lot of citrus trees outside
