The Basilica Cistern was built in the 6th century under Emperor Justinian to store water for the city. Hundreds of marble columns hold up its roof.
Walk on the raised platforms through the dim, lit hall and find the two Medusa heads used as column bases. The cistern is close to the Hagia Sophia.
The cistern is open from 09:00 to 19:00, with last entry at 18:30. You receive the real entry ticket in a separate email. Check your spam folder.
