Ireland packs an extraordinary amount into a small green island: dramatic Atlantic coastlines, prehistoric monuments older than the pyramids, medieval castles and a legendary culture of music, storytelling and warm welcomes in the pub.

From Dublin's literary streets to the wild edges of Kerry and Donegal, guided experiences connect you with the landscapes, legends and local characters that give Ireland its soul.

En savoir plus sur Ireland

Dublin, the capital, brims with history and craic: Trinity College and the Book of Kells, Dublin Castle, the Guinness Storehouse and the pubs of Temple Bar. To the south, Kilkenny and the Rock of Cashel showcase medieval Ireland, while Cork offers the English Market and nearby Blarney Castle.

The west is where Ireland's scenery peaks: the Cliffs of Moher, the lunar limestone of the Burren, the Ring of Kerry, and Galway, a bohemian harbour city and gateway to Connemara and the Aran Islands. In the north (Northern Ireland, UK) lie the Giant's Causeway and the Titanic story in Belfast. Ancient sites like Newgrange in the Boyne Valley predate Stonehenge.

Irish food has come into its own: fresh oysters and seafood, hearty stews and soda bread, farmhouse cheeses, and of course a perfectly poured pint of Guinness.

La meilleure période pour visiter

May, June and September offer the best balance of longer days, greener landscapes and milder weather, without the July–August peak crowds. Summer daylight stretches late into the evening, ideal for the west coast. Ireland is famously wet and changeable in any season, so pack layers and a rain jacket year-round. Winter is quiet and atmospheric, with cosy pubs and dramatic, moody scenery.

Se déplacer

Renting a car is the classic way to explore the countryside and the Wild Atlantic Way, but remember Ireland drives on the left and rural roads are narrow. Irish Rail and Bus Éireann connect major towns, while Dublin has the DART commuter train and Luas tram. For the west coast and remote peninsulas, guided day tours are a stress-free alternative to driving.

Foire aux questions

The Wild Atlantic Way is a 2,500-kilometre coastal touring route running along Ireland's western seaboard from Donegal to West Cork. It links dramatic cliffs, beaches, fishing villages and peninsulas like the Ring of Kerry and Dingle. You can drive sections yourself or join guided tours that cover the highlights over one or several days.

A car gives the most freedom for the countryside and coastal routes, but it is not essential. Trains and buses connect the main cities and towns, and guided day tours reach popular sights like the Cliffs of Moher and Giant's Causeway. If you do drive, note that Ireland uses the left side of the road.

No. The Republic of Ireland is an independent country using the euro, while Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom and uses pounds sterling. There is no hard border, so you can cross freely, and many tours (for example to the Giant's Causeway) combine both. Just carry both currencies or a card if crossing.

Traditional "trad" sessions happen year-round in pubs across the country, most reliably in the evenings in music hubs like Galway, Doolin, Dingle and Dublin's Temple Bar. Sessions are often informal and free. Summer sees the most activity, and many guided tours include a genuine pub session as a highlight.

A week lets you combine Dublin with the west coast highlights like Galway, the Cliffs of Moher and the Ring of Kerry. Ten days to two weeks allows a fuller loop including the north, the Giant's Causeway and quieter regions like Donegal. Even a long weekend in Dublin with a day trip is worthwhile.
