India is a continent-sized country of staggering diversity, where snow-capped Himalayas meet tropical backwaters, and millennia of history layer temples, forts and Mughal marvels across the landscape. It is a place of overwhelming colour, sound and hospitality.

With 28 states, dozens of languages and cuisines that change every few hundred kilometres, guided experiences are the best way to navigate the intensity and uncover the real stories behind the icons.

À propos d'India

The classic Golden Triangle links Delhi, with its Red Fort, Jama Masjid and Humayun's Tomb; Agra, home to the incomparable Taj Mahal and Agra Fort; and Jaipur, the "Pink City" of the Amber Fort and Hawa Mahal. Beyond it, Rajasthan dazzles with Udaipur's lake palaces and Jodhpur's blue old town.

In the south, Kerala offers palm-fringed backwaters and houseboats; Goa brings beaches and Portuguese heritage; and Mumbai pulses as the film and finance capital. Spiritual India centres on Varanasi and its Ganges ghats, one of the world's oldest living cities.

Indian food is a universe of its own: rich North Indian curries and tandoori, fiery South Indian dosas and sambar, Bengali fish, and street-food institutions like chaat, samosas and biryani that vary region to region.

La meilleure période pour visiter

October to March is the prime season across most of the country, with pleasant, dry weather ideal for Rajasthan, the Golden Triangle and the south. The monsoon (June–September) brings heavy rain but lush landscapes, especially beautiful in Kerala. Avoid the intense pre-monsoon heat of April–May in the plains, when temperatures can top 45°C; hill stations and the Himalayas are best in summer.

Se déplacer

India's vast railway network is iconic and cost-effective; book AC classes in advance for long journeys. Domestic flights link major cities quickly and cheaply. Within cities, use app-based cabs (Ola, Uber), auto-rickshaws (agree fares first) and metros in Delhi, Mumbai and other cities. For touring regions like Rajasthan, hiring a car with a driver is affordable, comfortable and highly recommended.

Foire aux questions

Most travelers need a visa, and India offers a convenient e-Visa for tourists from many countries that you apply for online before travel. Approval typically takes a few days, so apply at least a week ahead. Always check the latest requirements on the official Indian government e-Visa portal, as rules and eligible nationalities change.

Stick to sealed bottled or filtered water and avoid ice of unknown origin. Street food is a highlight but choose busy, freshly cooked stalls with high turnover, and ease your stomach in gradually. Joining a guided food tour is a great way to eat street food safely with vetted vendors.

The Delhi–Agra–Jaipur Golden Triangle works well in 5–7 days, allowing time for the main monuments plus travel between cities. Add extra days to extend into Rajasthan (Udaipur, Jodhpur) or to slow down and enjoy markets and food. Private tours with a driver make the tight itinerary far more comfortable.

Dress modestly, covering shoulders and knees, especially at temples, mosques and religious sites. You will often need to remove shoes before entering, so slip-on footwear helps. Lightweight, breathable clothing suits the climate, and a scarf is useful for covering your head or shoulders when required.

Visit at sunrise for soft light, cooler temperatures and thinner crowds, when the marble glows pink and gold. The monument is closed on Fridays for prayers. October to March offers the most comfortable weather, and a guided early-entry tour helps you beat the queues and heat.
