Croisières en yacht privé et de luxe à Barcelone (Guide 2026)

Barcelona has one of the most photographed skylines in Europe, and the best seat in the house is a few hundred metres offshore. At the premium end, sailing here is not a packed party boat with a loudspeaker — it is a small yacht, a handful of people, a drink in your hand and the Mediterranean going quiet as the city lights come on. This guide covers the private and luxury end of sailing and boat trips in Barcelona: what you actually get, which boat suits which group, and how to pick.

What "premium" actually means on the water here

The word gets used loosely, so it helps to be specific. In Barcelona the premium tier usually means three things. First, a real sailing yacht rather than a motor launch or a large catamaran — so the engine goes off and you sail. Second, small numbers: somewhere between a private charter for your group only and a shared trip capped in the low teens, not fifty people on three decks. Third, the drinks and food are included rather than sold from a bar on board, and there is usually a swim stop when the sea allows.

That last point matters more than it sounds. Swimming off the back of a yacht in open water, away from the crowds at Barceloneta, is the part almost everyone remembers afterwards.

Private charter or shared premium?

This is the only decision that really changes the day. A private charter means the boat is yours: your group, your pace, your music, and a captain who will work around what you want — a proposal, a birthday, a family who would rather not make small talk with strangers. You are paying for exclusivity and flexibility.

A shared premium trip keeps the same boat and the same standard of drinks and service, but you join a small group of other travellers. Capped at around a dozen people it still feels intimate — closer to a dinner party than a cruise — and it costs considerably less than taking the whole yacht. For couples and pairs of friends it is usually the better value.

The premium sailing trips we run in Barcelona

For a whole-boat private charter, the private luxury yacht sailing tour puts your group alone on a 52-foot Comar Comet 52 RS — an Italian-built sailing yacht with a wide teak deck to spread out on. It runs with a professional captain and an open bar: homemade sangria, cava, wine, beer, soft drinks and water, plus snacks. There is a swim stop when conditions allow. Towels are not provided, so bring your own.

Want the same yacht without chartering the whole thing? The sunset or afternoon yacht cruise is the shared version, capped at just eleven guests. Same open bar of cava, wine, beer and soft drinks, same snacks, same swim stop. You choose between the afternoon slot, which is better for swimming and sunbathing, and the sunset slot, which is better for photographs.

The Golden Mediterranean sailing trip with tapas and cava leans into the food side: cava with proper Spanish tapas eaten at sea, a swim away from the busy beaches, and a Polaroid you take home. It is also the most flexible on timing — sunrise, daytime, sunset and full-moon departures all run, and a full-moon sail is a genuinely different experience from the standard sunset one.

If you want the golden hour without a long afternoon on board, sunset sailing with snacks and cava is the shorter, simpler option: a drink each plus appetizers, tortilla, fuet — the Catalan cured sausage — and crackers, timed so you are out on the water as the light goes.

When to go

The season runs from roughly May to October, and the sea is at its warmest in late summer and early autumn — September is arguably the sweet spot, with warm water and slightly thinner crowds. Mornings are the calmest on the water. Late afternoon into evening brings the reliable sea breeze that makes for the best actual sailing, and the light that makes the skyline worth photographing.

One practical note: sunset slots in July and August book out first, and premium boats are small, so there are only a handful of places on each departure. If your dates are fixed, book that slot early rather than hoping for a gap.

What to bring

Sun protection and a hat, because there is little shade on a teak deck and the reflection off the water catches people out. A light layer for after sunset — it is cooler and windier offshore than on the beach. Swimwear if the trip includes a swim stop, and your own towel, since most of these trips do not provide them. Soft-soled shoes or bare feet for the deck. If you are prone to seasickness, take something before you board rather than after.

How to choose, in one line

Celebrating something, or travelling as a family or group that wants the boat to itself? Take the private charter. Two of you, wanting the same yacht and the same drinks for less? Take the shared sunset or afternoon cruise. More interested in the food and a swim than in the sailing itself? Take the tapas-and-cava trip. You can compare all of them side by side on our boat and sailing tours in Barcelona page.

If you are still weighing up the wider options — catamarans, paddle surf and the cheaper end of the market — our general guide to sailing in Barcelona covers the whole range rather than just the premium tier.
