Question 1

Are there free walking tours in Porto?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Free walking tours of Porto run on a tip-based model: there is no fixed ticket price and you pay your guide what you think the tour was worth at the end. Artista Tours also lists paid small-group and private tours, which cover the same historic centre in more depth and with fewer people.

Question 2

How long is a typical Porto walking tour?

Accepted Answer

Most guided walking tours of Porto's historic centre last between 2.5 and 3 hours. Food tours usually run 3 to 3.5 hours because they include several tasting stops.

Question 3

Is Porto a difficult city to walk?

Accepted Answer

Porto is hilly and built on granite, so expect steep streets, staircases and uneven paving between the riverside Ribeira and the upper town. Wear comfortable shoes with good grip. If mobility is a concern, tell your guide when booking — many routes can be adapted, and the funicular and metro remove the hardest climbs.

Question 4

Do Porto tours include the Lello Bookshop?

Accepted Answer

Some do. The Lello Bookshop charges its own entrance fee, which is redeemable against the price of a book, so tours differ on whether that ticket is included or bought separately. Check the individual tour's inclusions before booking.

Question 5

Do Porto tours include port wine tasting?

Accepted Answer

Food and wine tours generally include tastings, and some cross the river to the port cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia. Standard historic walking tours of the centre do not include tastings unless the description says so.

Question 6

What languages are Porto tours available in?

Accepted Answer

The Porto tours listed on Artista Tours are guided in English, with Portuguese available on request for some private tours. Each tour page lists the languages its guide runs it in.
